Linux Systems Engineer

Bronto Software is seeking an experienced Linux Systems Engineer to join our Systems Engineering Team. In Systems Engineering, you’ll play a key role in building and ensuring the stability and performance of our e-commerce analytics and marketing automation platform. You’ll be part of the team that is responsible for the hardware, OS, networking, and storage as well as the automation framework that makes it all manageable at scale. The most successful candidates will have strong skills in troubleshooting, problem solving, experience working in a SOA structured SaaS development environment AND systems design, great communication skills, as well as the desire for solving complex problems at scale that are unique to Bronto.

 

To be successful at this job, you should be experienced in most of the following:

  • Design, build, and scale both a physical and virtual infrastructure leveraging automation.
  • Managing infrastructure with configuration management tools such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or CFEngine
  • Deep knowledge of the Linux operating system, specifically CentOS/RHEL as well as networking services, concepts, and practices (TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP, etc).
  • Automating tasks via shell scripting as well as crafting more robust software in an OO language.
  • Demonstrated experience influencing new and evolving design, architecture standards, and methods for operating services and systems.
  • Diagnosing server hardware, system software, storage, and networking issues. Provide and apply workarounds and long term fixes.
  • Pragmatic engineer who can balance crafting both short term working solutions and long term perfect solutions where appropriate.

Responsibilities

Specific knowledge of following is not required but will be helpful:

  • Storage administration experience. We’re not looking for a SAN administrator but understanding the concepts is a plus.
  • Experience deploying and managing Citrix Xen Hypervisors at scale across multiple data centers.
  • Instrumenting metrics via graphite/grafana or a similar tool suite. You should be really excited about:

  • Automating basically everything and eliminating the need to login and hand manage routine changes.
  • Following new trends in technology and bringing those to the team. You should be able to speak about developments in SDS, SDN, and private cloud.
  • Helping us get better at what we do by developing process automation and tooling to monitor systems, collect data, and develop maintenance methodologies.

  • Participate in Production On-Call with other team members.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
